I'm joining the shotgun brigade for this one!
I also note that the device is actually Swedish. Are they trying to pull another 1814 (union) on the Norwegians through subliminal audio broadcasts?

It gets better, they're from my town. Malmö assaults Norway!
http://www.unsworn.org/
Quite a few weird projects there. I remember seeing a setup with their ophones on our annual city festival this summer!
Still, you guys have a tradition for this sort of thing - I remember being confused by the highly localised speakers talking gibberish in your ears that are (were?) scattered all over Gardermoen.

Hey guys, this is just art! You aren´t supposed to shoot art unless you are a performance artist or a member of the NSDAP.
And possibly some of you might want to take a discussion of staatsrat Ziegler´s taste in MUSIK over to the diversity section?

The NSDAP would love these devices - one on each hilltop, delivering glowing propaganda speeches to people and reindeer alike
I also suggest that as art, it is incomplete without a few nicely placed bullet holes to impede its function... that would even elevate it to meta art

OK, I guess you are entitled to take out the offending artist if you do it in the name of art curation.
On the other hand, the true and sacred american approach to such pest control would be to write and lecture on the subject and then hope someone else has the guts and guns to solve the problem.
And the true and sacred american way would also be to secure all the artworks done by that artist first. The prices will soar when the bastard is dead. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

No! No! No! No! I'm not in favor of shooting the "artist", for dog's sake just, the art! And my objection is based on the assumption that it can be heard beyond the boundary of the land owner on whose property is installed. If it's public land I would be in favor of vomiting on the officials who approved it. That's as violent as I'm willing to get. _________________ The question is not whether they can talk or reason, but whether they can suffer. -- Jeremy Bentham |

This reminds me of a time many years ago when I was living in the big city. Everywhere there was these alarms that would go off, usually in the middle of the night. It was often the same alarms going of night after night, sometimes several times during one night. Some were on shops and some were on cars. In my experience there was never any real reasons why these alarms were set off, it could be vibrations from vehicles, moisture, defects - I don't know. The "alarmists" never cared; not the owners, not he police, and there was never a crime involved. Well, the police sometimes came by, looked sheepishly at the wailing alarm and drove off when there were no Beagle Boys to be seen.
One day when an alarm on the corner opposite my apartment went off, I had enough. This particular alarm had been going off several times almost every night for a long period. I grabbed a hammer and a set of wire cutters and rushed outside. I confronted the electronic menace in an adrenalin fueled rage (incessant wailing at 135dB right next to your ears does affect your body chemistry), and proceeded to batter it with the hammer until it fell apart and went silent. The neighbours, peeking out of windows and appearing on balconies, cheered and applauded the deed. We all saw that the unconditional "respect" for alarms that had been ingrained in us all was something to be shed. At that moment I became the Alarm Killer. I could feel it in my bones that this was my calling
This little story may explain my dislike for useless and annoying noise sources. If someone put up a Telemegaphone within my hearing range, I can guarantee that it wouldn't live through the first night

The art won´t start to run when you point a huge gun at it.
However, the artist might... and that is when you can do the right thing? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Umm ... er ,,, well if everyone forced to hear it doesn't then object I don't object. But how do you know they don't mind too much?
I admit that in spite of every reasonable expectation people and bagpipes seem to coexist in Scotland so perhaps you are right? _________________ The question is not whether they can talk or reason, but whether they can suffer. -- Jeremy Bentham |

Hmm, most of the comments seemed to be from foreigners wanting to play (specifically) annoying sound clips.
Also, one commentator wrote: "I think I might play Rise of the Valkyrie mixed with an army walking. they will think it’s 1939 again lol...". That's more of the NSDAP angle right there - I imagine that those speaker horns have that 1939'ish tinny sound to fit
Anyway, while on the subject of annoyances, if you want to refresh that feeling, click here.

Apart from the fact that this project only lasted for a few months and this was back in 2008, the Telemegaphone barely registered in the media in Norway. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

You have my sympathy. That was my exact feeling when I once clicked that particuar annoyance. Never again!
It's always interesting how the "Do not press this button" kind of warning works peoples minds... I know I'm weak in this respect myself...
@ elektro80 : You're right, I never knew about it before Carlo posted. Of course, here at EM we have a more analytic and reflective community
