Mosc, where have you been since Moog made his synth? I think people 'cashing in' on Moog ever since that time. Look at us lot for starters! Laughing

And what a groundbreaking LP that was too! I love Wendy Carlos' recordings- especially the Clockwork Orange Soundtrack (Which I too have the original- from when I bought it at the grand old age of 7!!!).

I also really love the Monteverdi stuff she did ("The Well Tempered Clavier" Vol 2?) . Apparently these pieces weren't done with a vocoder at all- but manipulation of controls with hands and feet. It really showed (especially when you also see that the Moog Carlos used was quite small), what a master she was of this instrument.

However I felt that the best recordings were the ones made before her sex change. There must have been some pretty deep thoughts and sensations going though her mind just before the operation- and tracks like 'Timesteps' really do reflect this -I think we also forget just how taboo having a sex change was in the early 70's.

Her best album is "Beauty in the beast" recorded in 1986. a masterpiece!

I don't think I've ever seen that one. But I suppose that's not surprising because I went off electronic music in the eighties and rediscovered Jazz and Krautrock.

Although I'm still a big fan of 'rock' I'm listening more and more to classical music- as it's got so much more emotional depth.

One of my favorites is the dark track Clockwork Black on the Tales of Heaven And Hell release.
I also have the collectors box set .

I think Tales of Heaven and Hell is her best work.. though not necessarily for fans of synthesis. Classical music fans should love it.

Yes, I have. There is some amazing stuff on that one, but it seems more experimental - in the true sense of the word - than finished. She seemed more focused on learning how to exploit tunings than on just using them as a tool, as she did on Heaven and Hell. The opening cut on Beauty and the Beast is astounding; the fuax Arabic jazz is unlistenable.

Maybe it's time to give that one another spin.
