Ok .. but then the Taiga .. I want to be Sarah :: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-pzxGa0T7M Cool

Anyway, that was the only proper demo I saw

But anyway .. the wave shaping is pretty complex still .. but there is a filter .. and that BBD .. i want that . even if it is a pretty short delay .. pff good thing I'll be away from home for a bit. Oh and no keyboard .. good Smile

Oh I also brought out the NM Clasic .. it will need a midi interface tho .. four wires .. but I only have two now .. fokking roland made the old one unusable on nowadays computers .. just like they did with that nice usb sound interface I had .. one could call it . theft I guess.

4. getting something simple .. I had considered something rack .. but then when i look for modules .. it drives me nuts .. too many choices ..

I've built wren from scratch .. i do not want to do that with analog .. in wren it costs nothing but time .. the cost of modules .. it is silly .. you'd have to do it yourself .. aaand .. although I always have loved the meditative aspect of that .. I've become lazy .. and old.

So erm .. maybe .. djeez would one ever know such things .. I'm looking for simple but wild and not too expensive complete things that are not too much boutique like.

I'm copying a lot of my old cassette tapes to computer currently .. and I'm amazed actually about what in the past I've been able to do with minimal stuff .. with the self built element for the guitar .. using an old cassette recorder as my distorting amp .. with the synthon chip demo set ...

Anyway . I have no idea Laughing will see .. I need a bit more though .. the ecamples given before .. in digital .. some cooledit stuff that was brilliant .. in analog .. with the ms-20 I'm nearly there .. but it is missing some mods .. Ive mentioned some .. with wren i can do a lot of midi things .. and audio ..

anyway .. into that direction .. but no idea where that actually is . .we'll see Smile

So .. i've orderd that taiga .. as well as a midi interface .. 8x8 ... some patch cables .. new guitar strings and some light plectrums .. dug up the guitar fx and the nord modular classic as well .. that one might just work with midi .. after all ..

And now I seem to be wanting that granular thing ... 1010music lemom_something Cool

And no .. i dont want such a thing on an i-thingie .. i thing_k .. then better way too small .. i now thing_k ... but who knows the way thoughts fly.

ah this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiBRkbPoZyw

Oh and the orange one seems nice too . a sampler thing.

And I will be getting lost Shocked hopefully not for too long Rolling Eyes

edit : and i'll need to find my self-built guitar element .. the guitar is an acoustic one with metal strings .. the pickup is some pcb plates .. some bolts .. notls n butts ... and magnets and a lot of copper wire .. and in the past it worked like not bad at all .. when put in place with bits of cardboard Smile

edit 2 : It is really too bad I've lost that old transistor radio .. it was a really nice guitar fuzz .. after I had made an entry point on it .. maybe that V-Amp thing will mimic it. Oh and then go into the ms-20 signal in .. which is pretty close to what I used to have some decades ago .. who knows Smile

Created me some desk space .. and conected it up mostly .. it is snoring the night away happily Cool

Posted Image

the cacaphony of an ms-20, a nord modular, a wren and a taiga ..

and now try to make someting with it .. but first some more cables .. some longer 1/8" and midi.

This was all controlled from Wren .. it is not the handies t thing i noticed .. as Wren can only have one midi device .. I still can run multiple wrens that connect trough osc .. but handier would be one wren that can use multiple midi devices.

But for now .. me will be snoring too.

Oh .. BTW that taiga thing needs time .. nit much came out in half an hour .. but there is a lot of hidden stuff in modes .. and it has a tendency to make less wanted distortions .. needs a whip Shocked

ok .. ordered the lemon drop & the tangerine as well .. 1010music ..

also found in my closet a memo recorder which will do variable speed .. otherwise it is rather primitive .. but a thumbwheel for speed is pretty cool .. not sure yet if speed control will work on recording .. it will on rewind tho .. so seems to be a motor control. . but it did record at least . and as a memo recorder .. it will stop on 'no sound' [my very latest & last Sony Smile (well my dad had bought it .. but never used it it seems) .. ]

the never used bit .. is the bit i'll try to avoid now .. by earlier buying things .. i hope .. who knows ,, i'm old enough to to no longer care about being poor . or even broke might still be doable here Cool

And more cables are on the way ..

still did not re-string the guitar yet though, but did dig up an fx thingoe for it .. being berryhinger .. but with the ms-20 signal in that should give me somw 1990 sounds back .. and then .. that taiga .. it needs attention for all them modes it hides .. i did manage to get some clean-ish sounds now though.

I'll also want my G2 back .. seeing some promisses being developed there .. with my latest computers the old clavia sw will not work . the NM Classic now works fine though, with the Miditech 8x8 .. the strength of Midi . and now more relaiable tha ever it seems Smile

Meanwhile I felt a need for some simple sequencing .. bought a 0-ctrl - it combines nicely with the taiga. And should combine nicely with the ms-20 as well; actually that stuff all may be cross-nicely.

I'm still looking for something midi .. although Wren might be the answer, as I'd want it to have the flexibility of the 0-ctrl.

I did find a nice pluging fthough or reaper to make random melodies : robu : midi ex machina, it is a lua script for reaper, I've used it mainly to control the nanoboxes with .. but my brother promised to give me back my good old k4r .. and I still have some nords of course.

Anyway, toyed a bit with this stuff while I was at my mom's place for nearly two months .. but now am slowly re-integrating audio stuff at home.

The nanoboxes as USB devices are quite noise-hummy btw .. I did some cleanup working with them. will need floating USB I guess ..

The example tracks do have some .. a lot of .. over dubbing btw .. and bits of wave claying too .. i can not do this stuff live ..

And it is fokking bloody hot too - although not as bad as it will be.

Better go replug the wires, wobble the shift n stuff then.

I was thinking .. maybe just that Morphagene [and the Spectraphon] .. then again .. i can use some more control stuff as well .. and now that the set price seems more like the same as the mudule & casing prices added .. maybe the whole thing then .. and eh .. buy no car .. or something.

Thinking time started - now Laughing

And while waiting I've ordered the puremagnetics etches : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yRyAK8VgZs&t=4s

It may take a couple of weeks to arrive here ..

But also having lust for a couple more things besides the makenoise stuff .. but at least for that BBD thing .. morphor echon 6 .. delivery time 9-12 weeks, meanwhile the time on the makenoise stuff is down to 7-9 weeks ..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceyeZN4JWdE&t=70s

Re. makenoise .. it makes little sense to get the resynthesizer .. I'd better get me the tastychips gr-1, or odd-1 both granular things .. but then again .. i'll have some stuff to discover still omn the nanoboxes ..

Laughing

I've ordered https://echon6.com/ .. dhl just said it to be on it's way .. https://www.makenoisemusic.com/systems/tape-microsound-music-machine/ is not in stock yet .. 6 to 8 weeks ot says .. and etchy .. september ..

Meanwhile I wanted dto experiment a bit with granular synthesis .. tried a couple of free vst things .. all nice very nice .. but not what I wanted Smile

Settled on https://www.audiodamage.com/products/ad055-quanta-2 instead .. sofar I'm quite happy with it.

Oh and re. the echon .. it really is a shame it has no proper breath control implementation .. I'll have to use Wren I guess to translate cc2 into cc1 or cc7 .. for which it does have proper support .. anyway .. they never thought about wind controllers I guess .. where cc2 is a main expression thing [ and pitch bend with lip pressure as well ]

quanta is nicely flexible for midi controllers btw, cooperates quite well with the midi sax Smile

The echon arrived, and i wanted it to go into the rack .. soo the rack had to be reorganized a bit .. and then i could not comforatbly control things anymore .. so i needed more desk space .. then thought that to be possible when i'd remove the couch .. but then again .. there was a square meter of empty space where i could put the rack . .and stil reach the knobs .. but eh .. that wall .. dacades of smoking .. so i was going to repaint it .. but first clean it . .with ammonia .. luckily it was good enough then to not have to whiten it up .. with the new arrangement I got between 1 and 2 m of extra space too .. which is good for the sattification and easing of future gear lust .. there is a wish list .. and stuff on order .. anyway .. i could even fit in my old laptop again too .. and still have synth room.

Posted Image

and i was sick of the cable mess too .. so did something to that as well

Posted Image

Top rail is audio, middle is power and bottom one is midi/ethernet - this works quite well and still is reasonably flexible [as the gear will move, of course] .. but did have to label the cables on both sides, as it was no longer visually obvious where they would go .. of course in a cable salad such would net be clear either .. but .. well .. under the rack it is a bit less tidy .. even when i tied cables up a bit to have less mess on the floor .. at least .. and better than it was ..

Posted Image

And eh .. although all non audio cables are present .. i still need to think a bit as to where i want audio to go .. i have two rme thingies and they are digitally coupled so i have five audio lines .. send and receive .. one aes/ebu, four adat .. so i'm very flexible in routing, and can route a couple of ping-pong levels between two computers .. but still there are not very many analog ins & outs ... so decided to also add a good old analog mixer again ... and it starts to work!

I could still use a 3.5mm extension from the midi to cv box ... so it will be closer to where the beepers are ..

but it starts to work again :)

And I got bitten by windows .. again .. where it thought it could do USB power mangement .. but instead would just drop the MIDI over USB traffic after a couple of hours .. I've disabled power managemewnt on all USB .. like I always used to do in the old days .. and now the USB bit works fine.

Are there floating USB power supplies BTW .. the NanoBox [1] devices are USB power fed and are pretty noisy, from USB noise but also from their own CPU induced noise .. it is on . say .. cassette recorder levels . .without Dolby .. so not impossible .. but needs thought the whole time.

As an asside I watched a documentary on Delia Debishire .. and then I wonderd .. how could they ever make quality stuff with the noisy equipment they had ..

like .. why was there no tape hiss on all that tape editing .. splicing .. taping .. dubbing .. speed changes ..

Anyway . I also .. you know .. I recently saw this demo of Erica's steam pipe synth .. roughly 1000 dollar .. but then remembered that this thing is a hardware clone of an original reaktor patch .. ensemble .. [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtgbif4FzT0 , there are Erica demo's too ] .. so .. eh . for that synth I've bought reaktor instead .. roughly 200 .. butteh .. it also reminded me on Chet Singer .. and on what physical modeling he did on Nord Modulars .. and how he moved to Reaktor .. and .. that stuff is also still there .. once you buy Reaktor Smile

And .. maaaybe .. I could learn to program in it ... who knows Smile

I even had freudianly (at [1]) typed .. nonobox Shocked .. fixed now.

Meanwhile the etches arrived a good week ago and I did some beeps with it on 'mirrors smoke' :: @ https://bluehell.nl/music/ (also posted on https://electro-music.com/forum/topic-74906.html)

The makenoise tape & microsound is still on the wish list .. currently expected in 1 - 2 weeks .. but .. eh .. it gets delayed all the time .. no idea what is going on.

In the mean time I've made my midi to cv controller usable with making a break-out box, patch panel .. Posted Image

And eh .. while waiting for gear I got distracted by the micro freak .. so got me one .. with a mic .. it vocodes better than Wren .. and that sequencer .. arp .. whatever .. erm .. don't get it .. but seems usable ;)

Also got the ROAT .. saw a video of it that I liked .. meanwhile it does better short-wave sounds than that little multi-band radio I got .. maybe short wave is dead as someone said .. or maybe the radio just sucks .. a good lenght of wire for an antenna and some grounding helped .. marginally ..

Also finally got me an audio interface for the ipad .. with four ins and four outs, a loop-back and headphones .. so that I can start using some music apps there .. hell I bought that ipad for that .. like 3 or 4 years ago .. let's see where it goes .. if :)

And then .. the analog things .. i'm wanting LFO / random stuff more .. and also I have a lack of multipliers. I've been looking at racks .. silly expensive .. totally nuts .. i've been looking at modules .. totally nuts too .. very limited as well ..

So dunno .. maybe build a rack housing thing .. I do have a nice sturdy suitcase thingie ..

someone in this thread a good while ago said it .. you'll end up with a rack .. so erm .. yeah .. i may

And that module thing . analog multipliers (VCA's) are both expensive and a nasty thing to make .. with balanced mixer IC's .. but like very cheap digitally ..

The etches folks used a general purpose processing board .. I guess I could make LFO and VCA things with that .. dunno .. I did start to look at eurorack dimensions, power requierments and such.

but then again .. I was 18 or 17 at the time .. and saw some nice wood things . perfectly suiotable for making keyboard keys .. so I bought a couple of those .. then stumbled over cheap transistors .. perfectly suitable for making organ stops .. so .. built those .. and it all went into nothing .. [except they were metal can transistors . so when filing the lid of they'd be photo sensitive .. and with a lense in front I could count cars passing bye]

Anyway .. I'm on a halt now a bit .. music wise .. had ordered a new mixer too .. but it arrived oddly in a strangely taped up box .. and when i unpacked it .. the rubber feet fell out to the ground .. instead of being attached to waxed paper .. as they should have been .. I should probably not have accepted it as new .. but I did and it turned out that AUX 2 was dead .. so I had to return it :? and

Actually I'm pretty pissed that Thoman sold me badly repaired used for new .. and when they play up it'll have been my last thoman I guess .. which is too bad .. but it really is something you can not do .. sell used for new .. especially not when defect.

Funny thing . .a couple af days before I had it with a drilkl I had bought .. it was used, damaged, non fitting and incomplete :( .. karma, or a sign of the times?

So erm .. autumn .. windy rainy . not warm . and I'm on pause 8)

Hmm .. just seeing that the ROAT is russian .. had I known .. i might not have bought it .. but then again .. I still buy USA stuff as well .. these are hard choises .. to boycot israel is way easier .. except for their spyware maybe .. which you can not seem to refuse. Or I'm weak ..

Heh, so I'm not the only one who is confabulated by the sequencer on that thing. It's nice though, and you can load your own samples into it too (into the synth, which you then can use the sequencer on) and even wavetables. And you reminded me I've got to connect into the mic input. Haven't done that yet...

And me neither!

And the mic input .. it can be set very insensitive .. so with the right jack it may be able to handle audio levels.

BTW .. did I mention BLOT already .. if so .. i forgot .. so here it is .. it is a mac only thing .. but pretty nice :: https://laboratory0.gumroad.com/l/BLOT
