And now a little Drum'n'Bass! |
 |
|
Alright, I have cleaned up my webspace so theres at least enough capacity for my new track (btw. thanks mosc for the pm. newbie support here is great )
This rather short Drum'n'Bass-Track is called "subroad". It's hectic, so you have to be in the right mood for it, and provides a symbiosis of Strings and "Technoish" synths. I created this one in quite a short time - around 3-4 hours - but I'm feeling very content with it, see if I can share my impression with you... did I say you have to be in the right mood?
So here it is:

This one sounds good to me. I don´t know the genre that well so I cannot really tell if there are some insanely great things in here or not... but it sounds good to me. perhaps some of the tonal excursions are a bit too wandering to my taste, but then I ussually say that about any drum and bass.. I reckon this is solid stuff.
...Paul.. drum and bass is atonal?? Or do you mean that this genre has tonaility but usually lacks sensible melodic constructions past the point of repetitive phrases? In that case this piece tends to be going in the direction of melody.. yes.. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

orginally, before the various sub-genre fragmentation of drum and bass, d n b was made on samplers with very short sample times...[ca 1991]
as a result you would hear a drum break or two, a vocal sample with 3 or 4 words, and then one shots and hits..
so, long phrases or chord progressions were not part of the drum and bass sound..not enough memory
additionally, the darker, tense mood of drum and bass and the fierce application of permutated cut-up waveforms, lends itself to more 'noise' and 'real world' sounds like an air-raid siren or an explosoin..not melodic elements
of course this orginal drum and bass sound has morphed into various sub genres..some of which are watered down versions, and others sub genres have expanded into more melodic territories and , as the trend is now, into song-like structures with verse, chorus etc etc...
the track above is an example that latter...although, if i did have one 'complaint' it would be that the use of drum machines rather than a funk drum break sample is edging toward the 'watered down' area...but that is just me _________________ Spiral Recordings |

Of course thanks for your comments on this one too.
When creating this track, I was thinking of a Sci-Fi computer game and have been slightly inspired by the great System Shock 2 soundtrack, if you know it. In case you don't, try looking here: http://kofler.dot.at/sshock/ (the system shock 2 tracks are better than those of the first one imo), especially the 'engsong' is one of my favorite drum'n'bass-tracks (is it actually drum'n'bass)... oh yes, and some of the tracks are ambient. |

Hi Lars
I think this track is bloody great. I like all jungle/drum and bass anyway, but I do think this one is original and interesting. I love the intensity of the track, the brooding string chords and the mad, frenzied synth that kind of bubbles up out of the track.
I think the drums are a bit poor sounding - they sound a bit muddy and I think in drum and bass the drums need to sound sharp as possible. The production of the drums could be improved to give them more impact, e.g. giving more prominence to the snares, pulling out the hats and little more, giving the snares more top end. Just generally giving the drums a bit more welly would improve the track in my opinion.
But the overall feel of it is awesome. Great work! _________________ This message was brought to you from Beyond The Grave. |

Thanks Dovdimus
I'm not that experienced with Drum'n'Bass so I appreciate your suggestion, I'll try that out - and I'm glad you like it _________________ Download my music here! |
