flipside, from Norway Subject description: An introduction |

Hey all, this wasn't meant to be a tedious introduction, but I guess it turned out like that anyways.. If you just want to see my webpage and hear some of my music skip to the bottom
My name is Alex, I'm 23, from Norway, and I work mostly under the alias "flipside". It's a name I've had since I started IRCing in the 90ies. I started out with tracker software for the PC, firstly FastTracker II. I had been listening to these socalled "mods" with Inertia Player, and was fascinated. So when someone told me software to do that kind of music was freely available, I decided I wanted to try it. I really sucked at it at first! This was in '96.
I didn't really know much about hardware instrument, other than the keyboards my uncle used to sell in his store (aka Technics, etc.. I got a KN1500 when I was 14, and it did NOT give me all those cool sounds I yearned for.. hehe), so the tracker stuff was really great in that you got a lot for very little (in fact - nothing). I guess a lot of the samples used in that scene actually was copyrighted in some way, but it was not like many people made any money using them, and it was all kind of underground (that's my impression atleast).
Then for a few years I worked a lot with ft2, getting some understanding for music and developing a "musical ear" since I've never had any formal education within music.. And no piano lessons etc. Just playing by ear, as I'm sure many do.. I'd love to learn to play the piano in a classical way though.
When softsynths integrated with trackers got to be all the rage, I worked my way through AXS, NoiseTrekker and Buzz over a short period of time, before I started working with Logic and got a JP8000 together with a friend. From then I started buying gear, first digital stuff, but I got to know a guy who's been in the music industry for many years, we became good friends and he got me interested in analog synths. He also taught me all the basics I've worked from when it comes to eq'ing, arranging, well - producing in general. So now I own a few digital and analog synths, and I feel they really complement eachother well. If you want a gearlist, let me know
I finally got my music released in 2004, when I did a remix of Oceanlab - Satellite. (It was a remix competition). That really opened a good few doors for me. Since that I've done some remixes, and I hope to get my own stuff out soon too. These days I mostly produce clubby/electro and melodic stuff.
STP from Apoptygma Berzerk and I also collaborate as "Drugwar".
There's a flash player with some of my remixes, some unreleased (somewhat "old") stuff, and a Drugwar remix at http://www.alexodden.com/temp.html
If you want to read in detail what I have done, please check my website http://www.alexodden.com
Looking forward to reading and participating in electro-music.com!
Forgot to mention.. I grew up playing a lot of NES and C64, so I'm totally into that kind of music as well.. And I also make some. I recently got a MIDINES. Now I can make music with my NES!
Best,
