Subject description: What an honor!

Hey, guess what? A program that I wrote has been selected for use in a laptop ensemble performance! If you're not familiar, a laptop ensemble, or laptop orchestra, is just like a traditional music performance group such as a violin quartet or whatever, except that they use laptops for their instruments.

I have listened to such performances and it's obvious that this is not just a group of computer geeks (though it is that as well), it is a group of professional musicians with academic credentials who know all that fancy music theory and stuff about which I remain blissfully ignorant, lol.

So it's the real deal and it's not just an honor for me, it's also way cool because the program showcases that Boolean Sequencer thingie that I created (reinvented actually) and evangelized for years on this forum. Oh, and by the way, while I'm discussing the Boolean Sequncer, I'd like to mention that as part of the Lunetta Challenge I received a bit of divine inspiration or creative insight, whichever you choose to believe, that caused me to realize a new more generalized form of the Boolean Sequencer.

See the "ChucKchat" post in the ChucK forum for details about the program that I created, and I think I will go post about this new Boolean Sequencer concept in my own little corner of this forum, the eChucK subform. Happy day, things are looking bright in the world!

Les

Oh and guess what else? Someone sent me an email through the forum asking me if I would like to be interviewed about chuckchat on a British podcast! This is quite amazing, I wonder how many people are using chuckchat now, it has only gotten a few downloads and about four or five people have contacted me with questions about it.

I guess it's somewhat unique, a music capable chat program. Jan does this as well on his station channel, he broadcasts music that is chat driven from our electro-music chatroom.

I have noticed that on IRC and even in wildly creative virtual worlds like Second Life, music is not very prevalent. There will be DJ's playing streaming audio at most, if anything at all in these environments. Perhaps the time has come for something musically focused to exist in the virtual cyberspace interactive worlds.

Oh, and in other news I have decided to create a Virtual Audio World beginning with the setup that is now running on my Mac mini. This world is an assembly of software including chuckchat, nicecast, iTunes, VLC, soundflower, Line-In, and three of the public channels on radio.electro-music.com. See the Virtual Audio World thread in the ChucK subforum for details.

Thanks friends! I haven't heard anything about either one for a while, not sure if the interview is on still, but it was nice to get the recognition. I'll post a link to the concert performance if/when it is available.
