My wife and I watched a show a couple months ago where a university did something similar to building a sealed vault...can't remember what it was though. I'll find out and post back. _________________ Dave

Interesting.
Part of the job I have been doing is the same but in Denmark.
There it is called the "DR Historical Archive" or sometimes the "Cultural Archive".
This project was based on the existing digital archive of the national TV/Radio station in Denmark.
We used tapes. Everything is stored twice in two different locations (one secure), tapes are renewed automatically as they age.
Currently this is size at 12 Petabytes times 2, how much would this cost in holographic memory? |

Ah - the solution then is paper-tape! I remember working with it when I was in the service...talk about noisy...
Regarding the show my wife and I saw - neither of us could remember it but I think it might have actually been part of the History Channels series 'Life After People - Crypt of Civilization' You can also do a search for 'Millenium Vault' and get some interesting info though most of it doesn't deal with just data but more time-capsule oriented... _________________ Dave

I like when it comes off the spool and gets kinks in it. You'll need a long, long hallway to stretch it out straight to unkink the kinks, and then try to roll it back onto the spool. Great times in those days. _________________ When the stream is deep

which nicely illustrates that tape may not be the worst choice to store stuff on |

Oh do I remember doing that! Or punch cards - and dropping the program deck and having to put them back in order....uuugh....
Maybe an 8-bit mylar or kevlar tape - very thin and strong with physical holes in it....that's the ticket! _________________ Dave
