Sound lab front panel wiring problem Subject description: Terminal strips, wiring, etc |
 |
|
I just started building my soundlab minisynth, I got the pcb, soldered all the parts, the sockets. ( I am leaving the IC's out for the time being while the board isn't in a box )
I, made my own front plate and I/O panel, and I get how the wiring is supposed to work, except for the "terminal strips" for junctions. I don't have any of them :/
soooo, is that any problem? |

No, it's just a suggestion for a tidy way to do multipoint connections. Soldered connections should work just as well if you take your time. Good luck, this was the most painful part of the soundlab process by far (especially with a custom frontpanel)! _________________ -=facebook-twitter-soundcloud-blog=- |

I assume that the green ground wires on the jack panel are connected to the sleeve, not the tip, right?
And that the wires going towards X1, X2 & X3 are attached to their respective tips? |

Yes that sounds right.
Other thing to know: you need to use the panel diagram to map the spots on the PCB to which lug on the potentiometers they go. When I started I had assumed that when a spot on the PCB was labelled "R48-2" it meant the middle lug on the potentiometer R48. Not necessarily true. _________________ -=facebook-twitter-soundcloud-blog=- |

yes.
just wanted to make sure you didn't for some reason do something dumb like I did, and ignore that at first and just go with the numbering on the PCB _________________ -=facebook-twitter-soundcloud-blog=- |

For whatever it's worth, I found the wiring to be very time-consuming but not difficult if you follow those letters on Ray's diagram.
Post pictures when yours is done! |

Will do The wiring, won't be pretty though, and the box, non existent for now.
For a little while I sat... and stared first at my front panel, and then at the wiring diagram, then back, I had no idea where to start. So in 1 1/2 hours I soldered around five wires. |

Perhaps I should mockup my box in a shoebox or something so I can wire the PCB and the jack panels together.
and at least I know that not everyone cares about color coding like I do
EDIT
Oooh!
That's what that little packet of screws was for! mounting the PCB..
Not quite sure HOW to mount it, but I get the idea a bit.. |
