Life would have been that much crapper without Beefheart's music.
I remember hearing TMR on acid when i was 18 - changed my er approach somewhat, but in a positive way. Saw him on his last uk tour in the early 80's, and the band were hot! 20 minute version of Kandy Korn !
Thanks for everything Don. |

How incredibly sad
Mirror Man, Tarot Plane, ect. were game changers musically for me. Beefheart had a sound that tickled your ear from far away that made you wonder, "who is THAT?!?". For music to do that decades after, and still sound fresh, is beautiful....and not everyone can do that.
Me and my girl have really special, charged feeling about Beefheart. She turned me on to them, and i would make these Love letters for her to read along while listening to Beefhearts music. (weird, i know...)
It easy to think that the people we look up to will be around forever, i guess they can be...through the music, the art, memory.
Thanks -minus- for posting the thread so quick.

| I was singing "Electricity" in the gym the other day in his honor. I don't think anyone understood what I was getting at, haha. |

I just dropped some tracks from Bill Laswell's first recording under the "Material" name, in the Octatrack thread. If you like Beefheart, you'll love this LP!! Really worth picking up a copy, if you can find it. Made at the same time as "My life in the bush of ghosts" by Eno/Byrne, still (Laswell) sounding utterly fresh even today!

I'll definitely have to check that out. I really like the stuff Laswell has done with Buckethead, who's another topic unto himself! |
