VCO Calibrator thingy, VCO, and two ADSRs.

Half the reason I'm diving into this stuff is the chance to teach electronics skills to two of my kids, boys age 12 and 14. We'll be building the WSG first, to show what a build is like - finding parts, assembly, deciding on and building some kind of case, graphics, panel wiring, etc. WSG is great for this: it makes sound all on its own, is easy and relatively cheap to build, doesn't require musical accuracy or some kind of controller... simple, and it yields immediate results.

After that, we'll start into the hard stuff Smile

Can anyone recommend a DIY ladder filter out there that is as close to a Moog clone as one can get?

You might want to consider the Yusynth transistor ladder filter which is designed to emulate the Moog filter.

I haven't built it myself however I plan to build this early in 2011.

Mfos pcb's are great fun to build , i've just finished populating my 43rd pcb delivered from mfos , yes , i like them that much Smile .
I think Bridechamber may supply a pcb for the Yusynth ladder filter if you don't want to etch your own.... http://www.bridechamber.com/bridechamber.com/PCBs.html .
Also the Mfos 4 pole lowpass & state variable filters are fantastic, i use them for a lot of melody / bassline monosynth patches on my modular .

Have fun Smile
Dave.

Cool, thanks for the tip on the Yusynth PCB. I'll definitely have to pick one up. Too bad it uses two CA3046 ICs. The design page says they're "cheap transistor arrays," easier than matching transistors. That was back in the "good old days" I guess (5 years ago?) I'll have to hand-match some transistors and substitute. 2N3094s are still cheap in bulk.

I should probably start a build thread...

Don't know if these are any help
