Those amazing Brittains... |
 |
|
Yesterday evening I had the choice listening to EM-2010 broadcast (Some talking about Palle Dahlstedt - at least that's what I understood hearing only half of the discussion) and watch the telly. I chosed the later haven't zapped for almost two years...
I ended up with the BBC broadcasting The Last Night of the Proms.
In for some easy listening symphonically music the program went into the last part of the show: community singing!
That's what those Brittains are really good at! Rule Britannia and You Never Walk Alone, Jerusalem and Brittens' version of God Save the Queen...
Just Goose Bumps!

That... just makes no sense to me at all!
But I'm glad you got something out of it. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

Well, I was in a ZAP-mood, so listening to a discussion in which incidently Palle was mentioned, but I could only hear the voice of the one with the microphone and the others mumbling far away, I rose out of my chair and went to the telly
BTW In the morning my son was zapping and suddenly there was Forbidden Planet at Turner Classic Movies. So maybe the telly isn't that boring anymore

American telly sucks ass! Even my girlfriend's mother finally admitted that despite the 500 channels they get, there's fuck-all to watch!
My girlfriend and I stick with Netflix. We don't have the patience or money for 500 channels of boohiss. Plus, our conspiracy theory red flags were raised by the whole ban on analog broadcasting in the US. That was just... weird. |

Wout, it's "Britons" and not 'Brittains'.
In fact, 'Brittain' is a Scottish name! _________________ ACHTUNG!

What a clusterF&#^ THAT has been. There's been a big push for radio broadcast to go digital as well. I guess they figure they might as well screw up the entire broadcast industry while they are at it.
At this point there is no set timeline for a complete digital transition for radio. Last I saw only about 15% of US radio stations are simulcasting in analog and digital - most of those are Public Radio with support from the Govt, or the huge corporations with hundreds of stations..
The broadcaster is looking to spend 50 to 100 thousand dollars or more for equipment plus thousands for initial licensing and a portion of it's yearly revenue to be paid to "Ibiquity" (a private corporation and developer of the HD IBOC format) for the privilege of using their technology.

I enjoy Turner Classic Movies, IFC, Sundance and programs such as Nature, Nova and Frontline on PBS. The rest of the stuff here is just too intensely annoying to bother with.
What gets my panties in a bunch just as much as the actual inane content or the incessant commercial breaks are the advertising screen "bugs" that appear constantly throughout a program and the squeezing of the credits to a fraction of the screen at the end of a flick (even on upper tier movie channels!) so they can cram additional shit in there as well. IFC is getting even more annoying in this department. I think TCM and PBS are the only channels I get that don't do any of that. Last night I watched "The Fountainhead" on TCM without anything more than a mostly transparent logo in the lower right corner on occasion.
Digital radio? Ugh. _________________ My Site |

Someone did a parody of the way some channels cram too much into the screen. It was a talking head of some kind who kept having to lower his head, duck, bob, and weave, and ultimately get pushed out of the picture by all the extra crap on-screen.
We're going to be seeing that soon. Well, everyone else will. Not me. I'd rather turn off the telly and turn up some oscillator pots. |
