Adding CV input to a drum toy |
 |
|
Hola,
I have a drumtoy here from chicco - one of the nasty ones with nasty little blob chip. you can trigger different drumsounds via some buttons. So far I took it appart and added a sample speed pot - very nice and crunchy.
Next I want to add a CV input for four different sounds, to trigger them via a simple 4017 Sequencer I plan on building. My question is: How do do you add CV input that triggers the samples instead of using the buttons?!
Thanks for any help, hints or links to information on that topic!

| I had a drum toy and the buttons were sending 3 volts to the chip, so I just wired jacks to the chip side of the trigger buttons and used those as trigger inputs - worked great. |

There are usually three possibilities.
1: sounds are triggered by a High level. (like Fengland had)
2: sounds are triggered by a Low level (like ground) .
In case of Low level triggering you may have results by sending the output from the 4017 through an inverter stage.
3: Sound trigger buttons connect some specific signal (like a freqency), or the device has multiple send/return lines to connect.
In this case you need the 4016 quad switch (or 4066) as used in the Casperelectronics.com schematic that Sailermouth republished.
The AND gates between the 4017 and the 4016 are not essential and could maybe be omited. |
