New Minisynth+ BOM and Pricelist (OpenOffice Spreadsheet) v2 |
 |
|
I've just finished building a new pricelist for a Soundlab/MiniSynth+. None of the links worked anymore in the old one, and the prices are pretty different (usually, but not always, they've gone up).
Executive summary: About $82 for parts, excluding case, panel, knobs, wire, solder and 9v batteries.
I've left my personal order count in there as well -- I'm ordering enough components for two systems (except for switches and pots), plus getting 100 of most of the resistors (and extras for a few others) to help build up a part stash. In almost all cases, I spent the extra penny/per and went with 1% metal film resistors.
Anyway, this may help someone else. The last list was old enough that the part #s were often off as well.
Ray, you're welcome to put this on the site, although I'll leave it on my server as well.
edit: URL tag not working, oh well, here's it raw:

edit2: Please let me know about any mistakes, I haven't made the order yet. This is the first time I've sourced a kit like this...
edit3: Updated with better sourcing for some of the parts, much cheaper Last edited by loydb on Tue Feb 23, 2010 10:16 am; edited 1 time in total |

loydb,
No criticism of the BOM, but it looks like a large proportion of the increase is around the pots and switches (always a costly item in synth building). You might be better looking at some alternate sources, like Small Bear Electronics, for these parts - like these:
http://www.smallbearelec.com/Categories.bok?category=Potentiometers+and+Trimpots
I suspect the 16mm Alpha's with either a solid or split shaft (depending on the type of knobs you want to use) would be the best bet for the Minisynth.
Check out some of the other prices on Small Bear as well, but there's no harm in splitting your order between multiple suppliers.
Regards
Magman |

Believe me, any criticism that makes the price go down is welcome I'm under no illusions that I know the best spot to find anything other than a good cup of coffee...
I'll check them out, thanks for the link. |

Thanks for the pointer to Smallbear Magman!
I've updated the original sheet. Through switching to Smallbear for some expensive components, and better search-fu from me on Mouser, the cost is now down to around $82 (probably a little more if you don't hit the bulk quantity discount on some pieces). |

| So is there anyone that can make the face panel and case for those of us who are not much on that sort of thing? |

| There are Front Panel Express files available on the MFOS site if they're out of stock on the actual panels, so FPE can make them for you. |

| Sweet! Somehow I missed that on MFOS. I need to place an order with FPE to finish up a few headphone amps I built so this will workout great. |

You can't. Excel uses its own proprietary document format, and Microsoft likes to pretend like OpenOffice doesn't exist.
You can download a free copy at openoffice.org. OpenOffice, of course, works great with M$ Office document formats as well. |

I know there are people that offer custom case building, but I don't know any. Honestly, if you can work a handsaw and a drill, you can build yourself a utilitarian case with no experience at all (glue & screw!).
You might also look for a cheap humidor you could gut... |
