A friend FWD me this. It must say a lot about something but I'm not quite sure what. Can anyone explain the motivations of the Senators listed below?
| Quote: | | In 2005, Jamie Leigh Jones was gang-raped by her co-workers while she was working for Halliburton/KBR in Baghdad. She was detained in a shipping container for at least 24 hours without food, water, or a bed, and "warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she'd be out of a job." (Jones was not an isolated case.) Jones was prevented from bringing charges in court against KBR because her employment contract stipulated that sexual assault allegations would only be heard in private arbitration. |

| Quote: | Offering Ms. Jones legal relief was Senator Al Franken of Minnesota who offered an amendment to the 2010 Defense Appropriations bill that would withhold
defense contracts from companies like KBR "if they restrict their employees from
taking workplace sexual assault, battery and discrimination cases to court."
Seems simple enough. And yet, to GOP Senator Jefferson Beauregard Sessions of
Alabama allowing victims of sexual assault a day in court is tantamount to a
"political attack" at Halliburton. That 29 others, all men, chose to join him in
opposing the Franken amendment is simply mind-boggling.
And here are the names of those thirty senators who have now gone on record as
defending the "right to rape". Keep these guys away from your wives and daughters,
sisters, nieces, mothers, sons and nephews, too. Interesting that over half the
Republicans in the Senate have no problem with defending rapists, yes?

| Well my guess would be that those Senators have pretty strong links with the defence industry, I suppose if you make money from and support mass murder for profit then a little bit of rape pales into insignificance. |

I reckon Andy's right. Profit's more important than human dignity, especially where there's a woman involved, as these republicans (note lower case) probably think she should feel honoured by the attention lavished upon her... _________________ Where there are too many policemen, there is no liberty. On a related note:
I spoke to a friend of mine last night that has a sister who is a psychologist. She did an internship at a veteran's hospital in California and said that the statistical odds for a woman soldier overseas getting raped by one of her fellow troops was 80%.
That's Defense Department data, not just some crap off the internets.
Think about that for a second.
How many civilian women fail to report a rape?
Imagine how many in the military don't think they're going to get anywhere by reporting it?
So it's got to be a good bit higher than 80% even.
(Did your recruiter tell you about that?
Happy freakin' veterans day ladies! |

Truly no offence but one feels compelled to ask if you appreciate the irony of that sentence? _________________ The question is not whether they can talk or reason, but whether they can suffer. -- Jeremy Bentham |
