Question about how the WSG works

Hi everyone -

Just had a question about the premise behind how the WSG (http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth/YOUR_FIRST_SYNTH/YOUR_FIRST_SYNTH.html) works....I guess I am thinking of synthesizers in terms of subtractive synthesis with an oscillator, filter, and amplifier stage...are all three of these processes going on in this circuit? If so, what components are responsible for each? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The WSG has a number of oscillators of varying frequencies (the 40106), and a simple low pass filter.(the 741)
There are 6 oscillators (the 40106 contains 6 schmitt triggers, and there is one for each) then the transistors are used to allow the modulation of one oscillator with another.
