I recently built a Weird Sound Generator and have a question about grounding.

Rather than bolt the ground wire to the aluminum panel, I just attached a sort of flat like ring connector to the ground wire that I then slip over one of the 4 screws that hold the panel to the case. When I attach the panel to the case the screw is tightened and the flat ring connector (ground) is sandwiched between the aluminum panel and the wood case.

So I am wondering, is this an effective way to ground the WSG?

I decided to try and test if this method was working. So I played the WSG with the ground attached, then played the WSG with the ground not attached to the panel. The funny thing was that I couldn't detect any difference in the sound. This leads me to my 2nd question... does an ungrounded WSG sound any different?

Thanks for any input in advance!

Chris

ps: I posted a picture of my WSG in the DIY forum:

Depending on what sort of output jack you've used the panel will probably already be grounded through that. On a lot of jacks the threaded metal part that the nut attaches to is connected to the sleeve connection, so screwing the jack to a metal panel will automatically ground the panel.
If your jack isn't like that then the way you've grounded it is fine.

Grounding the panel can help to stop interference but a lot of the time you won't hear much if any difference if it's not grounded.
