Hi,

Sorry to keep chucking loads of questions @ you guys, but this is my first synth im building and i really wanna get it right Wink

Im ordering some parts and stuck on a few areas if you don't mind helping me out

Im stuck on a few parts:

Sound Lab:

C3 Tantalum Capacitor 2uf.... What voltage 10/16/25 v?

I cant get all the 1/4 watt resistors @ 1% should i just go for the 5% or try and use as many 1% i can get combined with 5%. Or can i use .4 watt?

I cant find the hex inverter cd40106 what hex inverter could i use instead?

Sample and Hold:

I have noticed on peoples front panels that their sample and hold has 2 pots "rate" and "output" but i can only see 1 pot in the parts which is R4 Potentiometer 1M and this is for sample rate. Where is the pot for output and do i need any other components?

Sound Lab Mini-Synth Intra-VCO Modulation:

I cant find any non-electrolytic caps @ 2uf but can find 2200pf one, can this be used?

Fine Tuner circuit:

ant find any 50k pots - can i use a 47k?

VCO V/Oct Scale Adjustment Modification:

Is this worth doing? i dont intend to play the synth live, more recording down and chucking in a sampler.

I see the 2K PT146 are hard to find in the uk, is it worth the hassle?

Thanks,
Jamie

The voltage rating should be higher than the voltage you are running your circuit on. The Soundlab is +/- 9v so I'd probably use either 16v or 25v

Which ones did you have a problem finding? I seem to remember fairly common values needed?

Looks like Maplin have finished stocking the CD40106. They do a HEF40106 here. I'm pretty sure you can use can use that. Rapid also do one.

2.2uf should be fine.

Hi LetterBeacon,

Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

The resistors im having trouble finding from Rapid are:

1/4 watt 1% - 39k, 47k and 100k which is sold out.

I can find them @ RS but they want me to buy them in packs of 5 with a subtotal of £12

Also i can only find a 2.2uf Tantalum Capacitor (c3 ) instead of a 2uf will this be ok?

Cheers,
Jamie

No problem.

Rapid have them in packs of 100 @ £0.95 each:
39K = 62-0937
47K = 62-0942
100K = 62-0964

I know buying 100 seems like over-kill but those values crop up a lot in SDIY, especially 100K.

Yep, 2.2uf tantalum should be fine too.
