WSG Lorenzo Layout Questions Subject description: I etched this and am stumped |
 |
|
I etched a PCB of the Lorenzo's layout of the WSG. I didn't really do my homework beforehand, just started drilling and populating the board with what I had on hand!
Questions:
- what sort of switch is used in the photo of Lorenzo's original build, as shown in the photo here? http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth/YOUR_FIRST_SYNTH/YOUR_FIRST_SYNTH.html#LORENZO - can anyone recommend an appropriate part?
- In the photo, C10 looks to be an electrolytic capacitor (?) - however in both Lorenzo's component overlay and the general WSG BOM, C10 is listed as an ordinary (non polarized) cap. Which is it?
Thanks for the help!

C10 should be a 1->2uF non-polarised cap. That could be a ceramic, a greencap, an MKT, or maybe an aluminium can bi-polar. (which looks just like an electrolytic, except it will have BP or NP written on it somewhere. ) |

Thanks Uncle Krunkus! The bipolar aluminum can seems like a good bet. The photo is taken directly from above, so its not really clear for identification other than it looks just like an Electroylitc cylinder style cap from above!
Cheers

OK, bumping this here to see if anyone can identify the switches used in the Lorenzo layout (link to photo above)
Thanks for the help!

| They're just PCB mounted toggle switches. I wouldn't worry if you can't find exact matches for them. |

Subject description: More discrepancies |
 |
|
OK, two more discrepancies I'm finding on this layout.
1.) the WSG parts list gives C6 as an el capacitor. On the Lorenzo DIY layout C6 is described as 'ceramic' and not noted with any polarity.
2.) the WSG parts list gives R20 as a 1M potentiometer. On the Lorenzo layout it's just a resistor.
Am I missing obvious answers or am I working from the wrong parts list. I should note that the Lorenzo layout "extra info" links do not give any information about parts that would indicate a different list than the one on the WSG main page.
. Thanks for any help! _________________ --------

First:
There are 2 versions of the WSG.
The layout Lorenzo did is based on Version 1.
Both of your questions point to the fact that you're looking at the parts list for Version 2.
On Version 1:
C6 is a 1uF cap. You should be able to find it as a ceramic dipped capacitor. Either a greencap, or an MKT. You could also use an electrolytic, but make sure it's a bipolar or non-polarised one. These should also be quite easy to find.
R20 is definitely a fixed 1M resistor, not a pot.
BTW Ray really should have called the new one - WSG2 and labelled it as such on all the associated web pages. But considering the amount of work Ray already does to produce wonderfully inspiring projects, I think we can forgive him this little oversight. |

Uncle Krunkus you have been amazingly helpful. in all my browsing prior to jumping into the project nowhere did I glean that there are two versions.
I will try to track down the version 1 parts list. I have a fair amount (but not too bad) of disassembly to do, unfortunately

If you click on the link at the top of this thread, (the one you posted) and then scroll up, you'll find all the original version info, including schem and parts list. |
