Hi Everyone

I am new to synths and currently own a Nord Lead 1 and Little Phatty. The LP is staying, but even though I love it, my Nord 1 is lacking poly...I need another.

My LP has to stay for its leads and bass. Please help me choose another Nord for chord pads, other sounds etc...(only room for 2 synths)

Cheers

I would recommend the G2, and if you can find one used the G2X.
I own a G2X myself and couldn't miss it.

Perhaps you are right Wout, but....
over the years, buying and reselling hardware, I've learned something.
It's better to do a good investment in a great hardware synth then buying cheap and the resell it because it doesn't do what you expected.

It's true that the G2 is a big and powerfull machine. But there are great patches and performances free to download here.
For you proper patches, you can start simple, by creating simple VA's and learn as you go, allso by studying the downloadable patches here and dissecting them Very Happy
And beside that we have the great forum here, where all people are very helpfull, I've never asked a question without an answer Smile

I see the G2X (in my case) as a long term investment.

Thanks for the quick responses.

A couple of things, my Nord is unexpanded and also the G2 and G2x are a little out of my price range.

I think really what I was trying to ask is will a Nord 2x or 3 be suitable for my needs. Originally I was comparing the Waldorf Q, Prophet 08 to the Nord 2x and 3. Or am I completely off the Mark.

Cheers

Clavia found some Nordlead1 expansion boards some time ago. Maybe they still have some. You'll get 12 voices instead of 4!

Cheers for that Wout, may be worth checking it out.

I gather in looking at this option first you feel the Nord 1 may be best suited for me?

Basically given the choice of the 1(expanded),2,2x and the 3 which should I choose to accompany my LP. Will be using a Lexicon mx400. (main music influences Vangelis, John Carpenter and 80's cheese)

Cheers

I don't know what you really want, but I think the extra voices are cheaper then a complete synth Smile
Besides the NL2X all are second hand, of course.

I know money may be an issue here, but have you considered keeping your NL1 and complementing it with a rack/desktop module (the Blofeld, for example, comes to my mind), and if you can place it right on the Nord Lead, it won't use any space. This is a good option especially if you like the character of your NL1. I think the NL2 has a similar character, but the NL3 is very different-sounding - it's not even marketed as a virtual analog synth (and to some extent, it isn't).

Thanks for your responses

My music supplier in the UK has contacted Clavia for me and have managed to locate an expansion for my Nord 1 which I think I might go for, thankyou for that Wout.

I was originally going to sell my Nord 1 and pay a little extra to buy a Nord 2. The price difference between them is probably the same price as the expansion. Does it really make any difference or should I spend the time to go for the Nord 2.

Cheers

I wonder how many are still left in Stockholm.

You'll get 4 Voices more compared to the Expanded NL1, the RingModulator, Distortion, a Sine Wave in Osc1 for FM and an over all softer sound. But you'll loose those wonderful cut-off corners Smile

Man, I'm obsessed by it.
When I feel frustrated, I take a pair of scissors and cut away the corners of my news paper, but lately my three years old son drove me mad, so don't look at his ears... Wink

I think it's a pity Clavia didn't release the anniversary model in that shape!

Nah, I'll better finish the Tips&Tricks thread then... Very Happy
