Ok everybody! Smile Here is what I HOPE is a very new LFO implimentation! Very Happy (Would someone please tell me if I'm unknowingly, reinventing the wheel?? I don't know of this type of LFO being done before and feel that it's a new innovation. Smile )

There is a much fuller description of this circuit, in the Design section of my webpage at:

http://deathlehem.com/wsb4569662402/design.html

In brief though: this circuit gives you a voltage controlled LFO, with the original triangle waveform being split into it's positive and negative halves and sent to FOUR sets of voltage raise pot and voltage fall pot, so that you can have 4 different waveforms available.
Each of the waveforms is cycled through in order, by the square wave of the LFO driving the clock divider, which is driving the CD4052 1 to 4 : 4 to 1 multiplexers.

Yesterday's TEST circuit was done, using 2 x SPDT switches from the CD4053, successfully. They were switched on and off, by 2 external LFO's square waveforms.

This following schematic is as I had breadboarded the circuit yesterday. I'm just about to import and send to youtube, the video that I had shot of it (on the oscilloscope) before I headed off to work yesterday.

There'll be much more development on it, before I come up with the PCB. I'll be posting the updates to here and my webpage as well.

The original voltage control and VCO schematics are from Thomas Henry's "Making Music With The CA3080".

As with my Liquid Hihat circuit, this one will also be - public domain - free for everyone to use. Smile

Any questions - fire them off to me. Smile

Nice!
That looks to be darn promising!
- great incorporation of various features.

Mmm Mmm!

i'm not following completely... where's the output?

THERE's the trouble Tom! I've been coming up with so MANY features, I'm starting to wonder how exactly to build the thing! Shocked Check the list of them on my webpage.
It'd be cool if it could be interesting enough for other people as well, but I don't want to make it SO complex that it'll confuse others. Sad
The MAIN things about it will be:
- Voltage Controllable speed
- 4 waveform sets (1 of them, being VCable - to be tested tomorrow)

There're many other ideas. I MAY just make the entire schematic with OPTIONS that can be chosen or not. Shall see how the final bread boarding tests go, before I decide further.

Cool you like! I can't wait til it's finished! Very Happy I've been drooling over the other's complex LFOs in the past. So - shall see how this one turns out. Smile

Ooopsie daisies. Shocked Wink It will be a buffered connection off of the Integrator opamp. (The one with the C? above it). Smile

Once the final schematic is posted, everything will be hopefully as clear for everyone as possible. Smile

Subject description: Update on functions. Failure. :(

My attempt at Voltage Controlled waveshaping on the breadboard today, failed. Sad
I don't have the functionalities of the CA3080's and friends memorized well enough yet to completely know what I'm doing. Sad
I tried modifying a similar circuit idea from a schematic for panning VCA output (Joe Parisio) and failed.
I'm going to carry ahead in testing manual waveshape control and verification of functionality as a VCO as well. With successes on both, I'll do a final schematic for it and the first build.

cool i need some more lfos, will they have a sync function rych?

i wouldn't mind trying to ram 2 or 3 onto a 2U panel, perhaps 4 onto a 3 U panel. what kinda of panel outs and amount of pots are you aiming to have?

Hey Luke. Smile Now - here's the possible problem area, for me. I haven't ever played with implementing Sync into an LFO / VCO. I've seen it done more often than not though. I should be able to go from other working examples and implement it myself.
A way OF doing it that I have considered as an option, is to bring the BIT inputs for the multiplexers (telling the MUX's which output is currently 'live', to the front panel.
As I have done, with my working voltage controlled switches, I've made them switchable by XORing a manual switch, as well as a CV input.
I could do the same thing for the MUX's in the LFO.
1 switching portion would be the Square wave of the LFO itself, XORed with a CV input. So only 1 of them would cause the change of which of the BITs is active. Smile
So - if an audio input was sent into 1 of these waveform channel switching input, then it would be FORCING the channel to change - yeah. Sync. Wink
I'll have to test this of course before final implementation.

K. I know the measurements VERY roughly of the 2U / 3U that you speak of. I never work with them though, remaining strictly with 19" rack panelling since the early 90's for all of my modular stuff.

Let me rough this is out in controls, jacks: (opt. = optional)

Pots:
- Coarse Speed pot
- Fine Speed pot (opt.)
- Manual waveshape pot for Channel 1 (only)
- Speed Control Voltage Input 1 (opt.)
- SCVI 2 (opt.)

Jacks:
- Control Voltage Input - Bit 1 or 2 (opt.)
- Control Voltage Input - Bit 3 or 4 (opt.)
- Triangle / Saw out
- Square / Pulse out

LED(s):
- Speed / level indicator LED
or
- Speed / level indicator LED for each of the 4 channels

So - maxed out - 5 pots and 4 jacks (as I'll be doing for myself possibly. This COULD change for me, as I've just finished the layout of a 4 x VCO panel of 3U height, with 6 pots and 6 jacks for each. I've been debating putting the KAOS in as 1 of the VCOs / LFO.

I'll determine that further once I start more work on it's development.

Currently, I'm working on all of the modules for my G.I.M.P. - Sequencer Engine, to get it completed. ( http://www.damian.deathlehem.com/news and http://www.damian.deathlehem.com/design - for the latest bits / photos on it.) I hope to have this massive panel completed by the end of August. (I should be done well before that, but this time - I'm over-estimating my expected completion time, just to be safe. Smile )

ok so you could get away with 2 pots (coarse and waveshape) and 4 jacks (possible 5 with sync Smile ) and that is about the same as my 4xQFG which i fit onto a 3U panel (5.25 inches wide)

great

well count me in, i want agent KAOS 004 Smile

i just ordered a tellun doomsday machine so i think after this my LFO needs are going to be well sorted. Utility modules ahoyyyy
