Classical Music Library - Advance News
Following negotiations between Eduserv Chest, Thompson Henry, the UK
agent, and Classical International Inc, pricing has been agreed for
consortium provision of the Classical Music Library.
This collection of classical music recordings is one of the largest
online, and is continually expanding. The service features 27,000-plus
tracks, with the main emphasis on the baroque, classical and romantic
periods. The unique interface enables users to organise, create, save and
share their own selections of music. Classical International has license
agreements with several prominent European and American record labels,
including EMI Classics, Hyperion, The RPO Collection, Sanctuary and
Demusica, featuring renowned artists such as Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Sir
Charles Mackerras, Felicity Lott, The Sixteen and the Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra. License agreements with other major labels are currently in
negotiation.
The pricing we have negotiated represents a considerable discount on the
normal academic pricing. It is based on 3 concurrent users per
institution, which are ring-fenced for each institution participating in
the agreement, but included are a number of ‘floating’ concurrent users,
an advantage for sites subscribing through the Consortium. Sites
subscribing independently would pay a higher price (GBP795 + VAT) for 3
concurrent users and would not have access to the additional concurrency.
The three year agreement is due to start on 1st August 2004, at a cost per
institution of GBP645 + VAT for the first year. Until all details are
finalised we cannot confirm that this price will remain the same for years
2 and 3, but Classical International have assured us that any increase
will be capped at a maximum of 4% per annum. This would mean the pricing
for years 2 and 3 would be GBP670 + VAT and GBP695 + VAT respectively.
Sites wishing to subscribe before the official agreement start date may do
so on payment of a monthly pro-rata fee. If your site would like to do
this please contact Heather Franklin (heather.franklin@eduserv.org.uk) or
Stephanie Piddington (s.piddington@thompsonhenry.co.uk).
In order that this Agreement should go ahead Eduserv needs a consortium of
a minimum of 10 sites. If your site wishes to subscribe at Chest pricing
please send a purchase order to Eduserv Chest. If you wish to start your
subscription before 1st August and the Agreement does not go ahead you
will have the option to withdraw or continue to access the service at the
normal academic rate of GBP795 for 3 concurrent users. You will not be
invoiced until 1st August unless you request an earlier invoice.
