Hmm.....

Major music labels have been delivering content to Apple in a major hurry, according to sources with ties to the European iTunes music store development team. The company has conquered licensing issues and will be launching the European version of its iTunes music store on June 15th.

Earlier today Apple provided its own confirmation of an official launch when it distributed music invites to members of the press. "The biggest story in music is about to get even bigger," Apple said in the invite. The event is scheduled for 11:00am and will be held at Old Billingsgate Market in London.

A report published last month was first to note plans for a mid-June launch of the European service, and also hinted that Apple will use the store to market other amenities such as cell phone ring-tones.

Meanwhile, sources close to the project claim that Apple CEO and 'control freak' Steve Jobs is personally selecting the home page content for the launch.

During the event Apple is expected to detail which countries it will serve and with how many tunes.

Napster, which launched in the UK last month, announced today that it had extended its music library to 700,000 songs — the most in Europe.
