I recently got two identical nearly functional reel-to-reel tape recorders (Luxor M29) from my father in law who works in a school. Cool

The reels doesn't turn because some mechanical fault, but tape loops still work! Very Happy

I've put a tape loop through both of the machines. The left one records, the second plays the delayed sound to the mixer and returns a signal to the recording one, thus making a delay effect.

These are prob the worst reel-to-reel recorders in history so the sound is really lo-fi (and mono only Shocked ) but I still enjoy them sooo much Very Happy

there's a sample in this thread

There's a really good article about analog tape recorder here

Cool. That kind of tape delay is always cool.

Just you attach that image to the post. I got a:

Do you have a cheap digital reverb? Try adding a plate style reverb emulation to the signal you send to tape.

Perhaps I'm going to try a longer loop since the tape might not get stuck as much as it does with my pretty short one.

I got the idea from looking at pictures of the old Roland RE-201 and a newer Hiwatt Custom Tape Echo uses a really long tape loop.

Sometimes I like those wows, but sometimes I want a slow clean delay though... I guess I should be glad I got a tape delay at all... Cool

Every time I get psyched to do something like this I think about the pain of making tape loops when the old one wears out....

I have been sitting on an idea for a cassette based version for ages, but making those loops is finnicky business and I have chubby fingers.
