San Francisco Officials Marry Gay Couple |

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - In a political and legal challenge to California law, city authorities officiated at the marriage of a lesbian couple Thursday and said they will issue more gay marriage licenses.
The act of civil disobedience was coordinated by Mayor Gavin Newsom and top city officials and was intended to beat a conservative group to the punch.
The group, Campaign for California Families, had planned to go to court on Friday to get an injunction preventing the city from issuing marriage licenses to gay couples.
Longtime lesbian activists Phyllis Lyon, 79, and Del Martin, 83, were married just before noon by City Assessor Mabel Teng in a closed-door civil ceremony at City Hall, mayor's spokesman Peter Ragone said. The two have been a couple for 51 years.
Ragone said that beginning at noon, officials would begin issuing marriage licenses to any gay couples applying for one.

I so do love civil disobedience.
Here is what I have a problem with. It's not enough for the opposition themselves to not recognize same-sex marriage, no. They want their opinion on the matter legislated. They just have to ensure that the government takes a position on this issue, and I hate to tell them this, but if the government takes a constitutional position, they're going to see alot of same-sex marriages around. And if they have a problem with that, then I suppose they can do their part and simply do not engage in a same-sex marriage. Ironic that the people who are pushing for this, the conservatives, are the very same GOP "small government "get-the-government-out-of-our-lives types who ALSO are so adamant about forcing prayer into schools, the Ten Commandments into courthouses, and endorse broad FCC intervention concerning broadcast content (censorship). These people aren't small-government at all. They are dyed in the wool Theocrats masquerading as government-of-the-people advocates. I dont think we need a Christian Taliban running things over here.
The reason I bring this up, here, is because these sorts of conflicts are all bound, they are all part of the same never-ending assault against reason, liberty, and freedom. On one hand you have same-sex marriages, on another you have the freedom of expression, and on another you have, say, the sovereignty of the individual, and the value of their privacy. The latter two have amendments protecting them, much to the frustration of those in power. The fight is on all fronts. You can pick your battles, but you cannot cherry pick relevance. It is all relevant.

Yes and the pot is boiling. It's great to see those willing to 'just say no' to the bullshit.
I've been thinking about this for a while now and I just cannot figure out why anyone would even care if a gay couple got married! How does that affect anyone elses marriage regardless of who they are married to? Then again why is Janet Jackson's breast so scary? How much damage can the word 'fuck' do? It's just a word - just a sound really.

Behavior-control. For example, many Christians feel, contrary to their own beliefs concerning the prerequisits for salvation, that it's better to act right and not believe, than to not act right at all. Right being relative, of course.
They want to change the presentation of the world to accomidate their values and sensativities, NOT save the world's souls. That is their stated purpose, of course, but demonstratibly NOT their practice. Their agenda is controlling everyone else's behavior, to mold our culture into a homogeny with theirs, so that they can go about their Theocratic business unconfronted and in relative comfort. To them, they are correct, in the right, and so it is they whose opinions should be implimented as, basicly, federal policy. And if they cant win on the Federal stage, they drop to the State, then local, levels. Forget pollitical correctness, we have to contend with moral correctness, and with the likes of Ashcroft in power, this is a very real problem.
